Hiranandani Hospital Vashi-A Fortis Network Hospital hosts health talk for senior citizens on the occasion of World Arthritis Day

~ Talk hosted for over 300 senior citizens at two old age homes from Navi Mumbai  ~

~This initiative will help older adults deal with arthritis and other joint related issues better ~

Every year, the 12th of October is observed as World Arthritis Day. The theme for the health day this year, “Don’t delay connect today”, echoes the need for an individual to be informed about the health issues they are faced with and a call to action to treat these problems at the right time. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment is key to better and healthier life. To commemorate this day and to enable the senior citizens of the society, Hiranandani hospital Vashi – A Fortis Network Hospital in association with the Lions Club of Navi Mumbai Champions conducted a special program on Sunday for over 300 older adults at Nerul’s two senior homes; All India Senior Citizen Club and Aamdashram Brahman Seva Mandal.

Dr Pramod Bhor, Joint Replacement Surgeon, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi-A Fortis Network Hospital addressed the senior citizens on how to nurse joint ailments and focused on topics like Arthritis, knee & body pain and Osteoporosis. The focused topics emphasized on the necessities to treat joint ailments in older adults, to liberate them from the daily pain and ordeal to live a healthier life. The medics from the hospital also conducted Random Blood Sugar (RBS) and Bone Mineral Density (BMD Screening) tests for the senior citizens. Lending support to the initiative was Mr. Pratap Mudaliar, District Chairperson, and Mrs.  Anuradha Karpe, President, Lions club of Navi Mumbai Champions along with Mrs. Usha Talwar, Zone Chairperson, Lions club of Navi Mumbai Champions.

According to the doctor, 20% elders suffer from fractures and injuries. The percentage of patients with Osteoarthritis is about 65% amongst women and 35% in men. During the past year, there has been a significant increase in this number. The objective of the initiative was to enable adults in old age homes, to be aware that care at home is the first step to right diagnosis and a healthier life.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Pramod Bhor, Joint Replacement Surgeon, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi-A Fortis Network Hospital said “It is important to take even more care of yourself when you are old; today a lot of senior citizens neglect such pains, end-up causing harm and approach their doctor for treatment when it is too late. There has been a rise in the number of patients suffering from Osteoarthritis. We conduct such activities bring hope to the section of the society, that even at this age they can and should receive timely treatment for their health issues”.
