Government launches Special Programmes for Control & Prevention of Lifestyle Disease

The Ministry of AYUSH through its three research organizations, namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) and Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) has launched a programme to integrate Ayurveda, Homoeopathy and Unani with National Programme for prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS).prevention-of-lifestyle-disease

The major objective of the programme is prevention and early diagnosis of these diseases; reduce complications; reduce drug dependency through these systems. It also aims towards capacity building for human resource development.

The districts in which the programme have been initiated are indicated, Council wise, as below:- CCRAS- Bhilwara (Rajasthan), Surendranagar (Gujarat and Gaya (Bihar). CCRUM- LakhimpurKhiri (Uttar Pradesh) CCRH- Krishna (Andhra Pradesh) and Darjeeling (West Bengal)

Further, the Central Councils for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy(CCRYN) has obtained approval for initiating a large scale multi-centric research study on Yoga and Diabetes which also includes screening of pre-diabetic & diabetic patients.

In addition, a screening programme has been started recently by All India Institute for Ayurveda(AIIA) jointly with National Institute of Cancer Prevention And Research (NICPR).

There is no AYUSH drug for cure of cancer. In NCPDCS, patients are motivated for lifestyle changes and recommended to take free integrated medicines along with standard care for prevention of disease and reducing complications/drug dependency. For NPCDCS, adequate space have been provided to the Research Councils
