With the completion of one year of operations in the city, many patients joined the celebrations and shared their experiences. Doctors also highlighted their observation on the growing burden of lifestyle diseases in Ahmedabad and the need to curb their growth.

“Columbia Asia Hospitals have completed 10 years in the country this year and we at Columbia Asia Hospital – Ahmedabad, the newest entrant are proud to complete one very successful year in this city. During the course of one year our doctors have come across some very difficult cases, witnessed some miraculous recoveries and established a close bond with the patients. On our first anniversary, as a mark of our gratitude for putting their trust in us, we have invited several patients who were treated here,” said  Faisal Siddiqui, GM, Columbia Asia Hospital, Ahmedabad.

The three day special health package starts today with a ‘Diabetic Care Package’ which offers consultation with a physician as well as an ophthalmologist, besides providing screening tests such as FBS, PPBS, HBA1C, Lipid Profile, ECG and Serum Creatinine. The tests help update the health status of a diabetes patients. The upcoming two days are similarly dedicated to Cardio Care Package (Aug 19) and Senior Citizens Package (Aug 20).

At the occasion, the doctors also shared their concern about the rising incidence of lifestyle diseases in the city due to adoption of western lifestyles, food habits and lack of physical activity.

“Much like the rest of urban India, Ahmedabad too is falling prey to the increasing burden of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, early onset of arthritis, among others. Much as we focus on treatment, we also need to increase our focus on prevention because a bulk of these disease can be prevented or delayed by adopting healthy and active lifestyles,” said Dr.Soma Bose, Chief Medical Service, Columbia Asia Hospital, Ahmedabad

A number of patients who were treated for very difficult conditions attended the first anniversary celebrations and shared their stories to encourage many more people who were suffering from similar conditions. Among the patients was 60-year-old Varshaben Patel, who underwent a revision hip surgery early this year.

Tenyears back Varshaben had been operated for partial hip replacement for fracture around hip; unfortunately she suffered a fall in January this year and broke the artificial ball causing her terrific pain and discomfort.

“I must thank Dr Maharshi and Dr Amit who attended to me in my emergency, even on a national holiday (Makarsankranti/Uttarayan) and my revision surgery was planned for very next day. They explained me that revision or second surgery was a tough job as the previous implant which was fixed with cement has been broken. Despite the complications, the surgery went uneventful and I can walk again as a normal person and can carry out all my routine activities,” said Varshaben

Another patient, 32-year-old Bhumika Vyas, now a proud mother of twins, owes her successful delivery to the hospital. The patient who delivered her first child 6 years back, presented with certain complications at the time of her second delivery. Despite the complications during delivery, the patient was managed successfully and her twin daughters.
