Kerala is stepping up pressure on the Central government to sanction the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the State, the government informed the Assembly.
Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar told the House during question hour that Chief Minister OommenChandy had talked to Prime Minister NarendraModi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and handed over a memorandum highlighting the State’s demand. MPs from the State had also been asked to raise the demand during the Parliament session. The Centre had assured Kerala of sanctioning an AIIMS for the State in the next phase.
Sivakumar said a Central team was expected to finalise the location of the AIIMS after visiting the four sites proposed by the State government at Kinaloor in Kozhikode district, Arpookara in Kottayam, Kallikad in Thiruvananthapuram, and Thrikkakara in Ernakulam.
